Northcourt Avenue History Book

May 2024

This was a large client-facing project I undertook as part of the Real Job Scheme at my university. The brief involved the redesign of the Northcourt Avenue: its history & people book by Penny Kemp, the client was looking to add new images, text content and get a more modern feel for the book.

For more detail, read my blog post about the project.

Client facing projectThis was one of my longest running projects and also my second client-facing project through university, as a result of this I learned a huge amount, especially surrounding setting up timelines and keeping myself and the client to them.
It was also an interesting experience receiving feedback from a client as opposed to a teacher and the way that changes how I show designs and what I show them.
Scope of the project
Due to a lack of files from the original design, I effectively started again with the design of this book and on top of this other projects I’d done in the past usually surrounded just a book cover or a couple chapters rather than an entire book, meaning this project was much larger in scope than almost anything I’d done before.
This project included designing the entire interior pages of the book, layouts, formats, typefaces, the covers of the book, the scanning and editing of nearly one hundred physical images, redrawing of maps and setting of all this content.
