'Food for thought' App

November 2022

A project during my second year at university involved an app design for which I created a fictitious food review app, 'Food for thought'. My goal with this app was to create a food review app that focused on accessibility issues and transparity, my concept involving tags ensured that reviewers could easily show what exactly was users might experience when going to a reviewed restaurant; users would be able to search and filter by the tags to also allow them to better find what they’re looking for.
I achieved a first in this project.

Live updating homepage
Every user will have completely different preferences, to accommodate for this and make their experience easier, I implemented a filter drop down, this also live updates the restaurant cards shown on the homepage allowing the user visual feedback on their filter choices.
The filter choices would also be shown at the top of the page in place of the filter drop down button, it would also be shown in the restaurant card’s tags, with the selection being highlighted.

Tag dropdown
One of the interesting animations in this design is on the restaurant page, my app utilises ‘accessibility tags’ to highlight accessibility options for each restaurant, on the restaurant’s page the user can see the icons for the accessibility tags, then after clicking ‘show more’ this section drops down to list the icons vertically with the icon names to the side of them.
This animation involves the white box underneath the image extending downwards, the icons themselves move down and realign vertically and then the names appear next to them.
